Who has never had Communication problems?!
Who deals with communication challenges almost every day?

When it comes to the topic of communication and communication skills, I remember my former Agile Coach Kai, who is himself an experienced communication trainer.

He said to me in a conversation at the time: „Iman, you have good communication skills.“

Although I had completed some communication training up to that point, I had no idea what exactly communication skills were!!

The two terms communication skills and communication strategies are of great importance in everyday life, whether private or professional, in order to be able to communicate successfully. and yet they are often confused.

Communication skills: The tool of communication

Communication skills are individual skills. They enable us to build relationships, resolve conflicts and work together effectively.

1- Self-expression: Expressing thoughts and ideas clearly.

2- Listening
3- Empathy: Putting yourself in other people’s shoes and understanding their perspectives.
4- Body Language: Use facial expressions and gestures effectively.
5- Give and get Feedback

Communication strategy: The plan behind the message

A communications strategy is a plan developed to achieve specific communication goals. From increasing sales to promoting products or services to increasing productivity in a team.

Here are elements of a communication strategy:

1- Goal: of the communication

2- Target Group: Understanding the needs and expectations of the target audience.

3- Message
4- Channel
5- 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴
6- Evaluation: Establishing criteria for evaluating the communication strategy.

We developed and implemented the strategy. However, without the ability of leaders to communicate effectively, internal group communication will suffer and its goals will not be achieved. The whole communication strategy would also not work if employees did not communicate well.

Communication strategies + communication skills, are together a 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗲:

Collaboration creates more than the sum of the individual contributions. Quote from 𝗔𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝘁𝗹𝗲: The whole is more than the sum of its parts.

So it is clear that both communication strategies and communication skills are crucial for success. Therefore, let’s work on improving our communication strategy and our individual communication skills at the same time.
